Is my peugeot safe to drive?

I have got problems with my poor clutch!! It makes a noise all the time which gets a lot louder when i press down on the clutch. IN the last couple of days it has also become harder to change gears - especially gettng it in first gear. My Dad is a mechanic but is on holiday for 2 weeks - is it safe to leave it until then to be fixed or should i fork out for a garage to do it straight away? Does anyone know if these things just 'fail' or is it likely to hold out for me for a fortnight? Thanks in anticipation!!!
